Hi Group We have a Garmin 296 panel mounted with the supplied antenna mounted below the top of the composite instrument module. The .110" diameter antenna wire is way too long:
** Can I cut and splice the antenna cable and make it shorter or is it some sort of tuned length? If OK to cut shorter, is there a minimum length?
** If recommended to leave antenna cable full length, would it be OK to hank it up in a 4" diameter circle and mount it about 1" aft of the GPS unit?

It is best to follow the manufacture's instructions. If none, then use the cable supplied by the manufacturer.
I used the manufacture's recommended cable type and length and coiled up the extra length.
You could probably use a shorter length of RG58 as long as it has the same total loss as the supplied cable.
