Starting thread for this week.
We'll be cleaning N241BW after last week's trip. We killed a lot of bugs!

Flew up to our sailboat in northern Michigan. A beautiful VFR day. On top of a scattered cloud deck a 9500 ft. One of the nicest flights in recent memory.

This week I bonded into the stabs 2 BID tube's, they mechanically retain the TP5 & 6 sleeves although they are also reduxed as well.
Thx To Nigel Graham for his genius in developing this mod. The Europa factory incorporated this idea in the NG stabs.
The BID cloth was wetted with redux on advise from Nev.
The stabs which previously fit just horrible ( I didn't build it ) now fit beautifully, 1/8" gaps top & bottom front to back.
I did make a mistake on the project though. I opened more of the the stab than needed, more work to re-glass but it allowed me to put a flox fillet on both sides of the rib. Oh...that's one more of my mistakes...I removed a part of the rib flange,,,it can be put back though.
This seems to be air my dirty laundry week lol

NICE!
I was planning on the same. What did you do for a release on the tube? I’d hate for mine to get bonded stuck lol.
Thx,
peteZ

Don't forget to slot that pip pin hole in the rotational direction.
Cheers,

Hi Pete,
I too was worried about epoxy sticking to the Torque tube, so I got some release wax as insurance , applied it to the tube.
The Mod plans called for some paper between the sleeves ( so BID tube is in contact only with sleeve's, not torque tube too ) then cellophane, Nev said spread some Redux on the sleeves, & wet out the BID with Redux on polythene and apply it on the tube, carefully removing polythene as required since you do 2 wraps BID.
The plans don't call for Redux but Nev said when bonding to metal it's a better choice, Aeropoxy can be just fine.
The plans available from Europa Club are well written.

Pete, or anyone interested,
I just remembered a detail of the BID tube construction, it was done in two wraps of BID, first wrap wetted with Redux as Nev advised and he suggested the second wrap of BID to be wetted with Aeropoxy.
The Europa Club approved Mod just has one do two to three wraps all in conventional Epoxy.

Sounds like a good idea. I will plan on wetting with redux the first ply where the bushings are.
Thx!

A little late on the report but last weekend I flew south to Vero Beach with friends for breakfast and flew by the Kennedy Space Center (pictures attached). Nice flight.
This week I modified my tank vent to allow more air to get it. It's always been problematic to get fuel in from 13 gallons to full. Will test tomorrow when I fill my tank for the Saturday morning breakfast run.
Also installed quick connect fittings for the extended range tank in preparation for the Triple Tree fly-in at the end of September. Not sure I really need it since I prefer to have the luggage space but at least I will have it ready.
