I hope all had a good Thanksgiving. I finally am back on my Firestar II project. I got the drag strut fittings installed, cage leveled, wings leveled, wing tabs drilled and now pinned, dihedral set, and about to finish my wing struts. I just need to measure again to make sure everything is perfect first then I'll drill the struts. Then I will move to the tail and get things installed there and rigged. I'm hoping to be doing fabric around Christmas time or soon thereafter.
My question is does anyone have a material list of the fabric, tapes (both reinforcing for under rivets and over the seams and rivets), number of rivets, etc for covering the wings, fuselage, and tail feathers? I'm not sure how many yards are needed of fabric and how many feet of different pinked tape, etc. I've heard rumor material is either hard to get or really expensive but such is life. I just didn't want to reinvent the wheel if someone had a list of materials needed. What exactly are the rivets? I'm guessing they have larger heads?
I'm thinking of going the Stewart Systems route even though I've used Polyfiber/Ceconite/Stitts stuff in my past life as an A&P. I don't like dealing with MEK and I'm borrowing a garage with living quarters above it so I'll have to keep smells to a minimum. I'm intrigued by the "Weiner Dog Aero" method of 3m Fastbond (some say same as Stewarts ekobond) and the exterior acrylic/latex paint method. I'm just not sure how well that will last. I did help recover a Citabria in the 80's with a "new" water based system (not sure who made it) but it peeled terribly within a few years. Glad I was just a helper on that and not in charge as the customer surely wasn't happy but we did follow the directions carefully. I don't think Stewarts came along until the 90's or so but I don't know.
Has anyone here done the 3m Fastbond/latex paint method?
Thanks,
Jay

I did a Maxair Hummer years ago with Sears Weatherbeater latex and it was a piece of cake. After Ed wrecked his FSII, I redid it with Latex from Sherwin Williams and it was a horrible experience. For whatever reason, it just didn't want to spray well.
In both cases I glued the fabric on with Poly Tak but since MEK is not an option for you, -
Also I rib stitched the wings rather than rivet them. Set the wing on the leading edge, with the wife on one side and me on the other it went pretty quick.
