I finished getting the fabric and tapes on both wings, everything is shrunk and ready to start priming and painting. I'm covering the ailerons right now.
How important is the aileron to wing gap seal? I know the seal between the 2 wing roots is very critical from another airplane I built but I'm just wondering about the one on the ailerons. I know there is quite a gap of 3/4" with the piano hinges (which I don't really care for) so obviously some of the air below is going to want to go up but is it worth doing? A Firestar with a 447 isn't a speed demon no matter what I do but I'm curious to hear from those who have experienced both ways if possible.
I have installed nut plates for #4 bolts and I was hoping to use AN eyebolts like the CGS Hawk uses for hinges but they are not available anywhere except Spruce who wants like $16 each.

Jay I was concerned about that on my Firestar so I solved it by running the piano hing the entire length of the aileron

Where were you when I was restoring my Twinstar? It would have been well
worth ~20 feet of piano hinge to avoid the hassle of making and
installing gap seals.

????? Considering all the work which was sometimes stressful, such as rigging the wings and tail as I built my Firefly, the gap seal was fairly straight forward and easy. why not just do it as the plans outline? Straight forward and easy. The only drawback I have encountered and it could be significant in the absence of a proper preflight is that the full span gap seals can collect debris. But full span piano hinges would have the same drawback.
