Guys-
You folks who have done this work, how important is it to comply with Slick SB1-15A, changing out the K3822 distributor parts for the kit having a Monel wiper? I thought all of the 4300 magnetos had copper wipers since day one, so why the change? Monel for the wiper is likely better, but were the internal distributor block terminals upgraded as well?
Should I do this on both of my Slicks next condition inspection?
Thx and stay well.

I did it to my two LASAR mags because they were at the 500-hour inspection. I did not do my spare mags. I have two new version K3008 parts sitting on the shelf in case I need them in the future.
It is my understanding that a batch made between certain dates MAY not be made to the correct workmanship standard.
I did not pull my mags when the SB first came out but did comply when the mag needed service. IIRC, they (K3008) were just over $100 each when I did mine and now are over $200 each.
All I changed were the K3008. The distributor blocks I have looked like new. In other words, I did a I.R.A.N.

I always preferred reliability of a magneto to an electronic as I have been in Aerospace and Defense Electronics for 50yrs. If I ever switch, it will likely be to the dual ElectroAir system.

It's an old post.  I used a Lightspeed + Mag on both planes up until a couple years ago.
Now both airplanes are Lightspeed + Surefly.  Part of that is due to all these mag
issues and maintenance.  It's funny because, I always kept the mag because I wanted
that reliability "just in case", since I was running Electronic ignition. Turns out the
Electronic ignition has been far more trouble free for me. So, a couple years back,
I reworked my stuff a little to go all-electric. I added standby alternators, and already
had dual-batteries. I did, however, add an option so that if I am doing another
Alaska trip, for example, I can bring a 3rd portable battery and add a quick connector
for an emergency. I have it so that I can 100% completely power off the plane, yet
still have a 3rd battery feed to one of the ignitions.  Unlikely I'll ever need it,
with 2 alternators, but that's how it works.   The more you prepare the less likely
it'll probably happen. That's why I bought a new snowblower a couple years ago.
I figured once I did that, it wouldn't snow as much.

You're welcome. I would say I did it for everyone else, but the truth is, I write that stuff
up so that I can remember not only what I did, but track down the parts when needed.
It's so hard sometimes to come up with the proper part number info, so once I find it,
I try to take good notes.
