I'll tell you this: I had a brand new IO-390 with brand new Slick Mags, and within about 350 hours,
I was having major issues that could have been a huge safety problem. The copper wiper had
eroded away from the shaft and even fallen off of the plastic gear. Watch this quick video
and then you can decide how big of a deal it is.

I would never trust a copper one again, ever.

Hope that helps you make a decision.

You folks who have done this work, how important is it to comply with Slick SB1-15A, changing out the K3822 distributor parts for the kit having a Monel wiper? I thought all of the 4300 magnetos had copper wipers since day one, so why the change? Monel for the wiper is likely better, but were the internal distributor block terminals upgraded as well?
Should I do this on both of my Slicks next condition inspection?
Thx and stay well.
