Electrical 'bonding' of components in aircraft

 is accomplished for some combination of three

 requirements (1) reliable connection of a

 device to power ground, (2) mitigation of

 radio frequency interference and/or (3)

 managing the effects of electro-static

 discharge (ESD).



 Here's a good example of failure to manage

 ESD back before we'd been schooled in

 'lessons learned' . . . 1929

		  There was an article in Air & Space Smithsonian quite a few years ago on this topic, and after a lot of research and calendar time the author came to the conclusion that static discharge was the culprit.  Some time later he happened to be near Friedrichshafen and stopped in to look around and see what the Zeppelin company might think on the topic.  It seems they'd come to the same conclucion at the time of the accident, but the conspiracy theories still held sway.
