Today's complete RV10-List Digest can also be found in either of the
two Web Links listed below. The .html file includes the Digest formatted
in HTML for viewing with a web browser and features Hyperlinked Indexes
and Message Navigation. The .txt file includes the plain ASCII version
of the RV10-List Digest and can be viewed with a generic text editor
such as Notepad or with a web browser.

Guys: We have built 2 RV 10's over the past 10 years. The last one in 2018. We put the standard kit Grove Brakes on the 1st one and Matco Brakes on the 2nd one. The Matco Brakes with 4 pads certainly Brake much better. You can replace the Groves without much trouble if you want to spend the money and if I were to build another RV 10 I would install the Matcos. They are about the same cost as the kit Groves.
However, The Matcos add a fair amount of drag to the plane pushing it into the hanger especially with only a few inches of incline up to the door. As a result, we built a tug for the 10. It is made out of a 3/8" plate for the front tire to run up on and 10ga triangular side panels forming a triangular box for the wheel and cowling to fit in (a foot wide). We drive it with a 12volt camper slide-out motor mounted in front of the wheel box (It turns at 8rpm and has 820 ft lbs torque whis is strong enough). 5/8" shafting from the motor extending out each side the width of the wheel box with #40 chain drive from a 3" sprocket on the drive shaft to a 6" sprocket bolted and spaced outside Harbor Freight 4.00-6 air inflated tires. The drive tires are mounted to the sides of the box with 5/8" fixed axels. Put a handle about 5 feet long with a momentary 2 position switch for (forward and reverse) and a 12volt lawn mower battery in front of the box. Mounted some 2 1/2" casters just in front of the drive wheels so you can lift the wheel box and drive wheels off the ground by tilting wheel box up with the handle. Total cost about $500. Works fine.

Doc,
Do you have photos, plans, part/vendor list for your tug? I’m looking to build one this year as a winter project. I have been looking at the various units people have built. I like the tray approach.
Bob (at) thelefflers (at) com if you don’t want to post to the mailing lists.
Thanks,
Bob
