This week 181 had a UMA manifold pressure gauge fitted and Hobbs meter got repositioned into undercarriage lever void... It was an adventure...
First a new piece of panel plate was drafted, and this time rather than waiting for pieces to be lazer cut stuff got 3D printed instead. Two pieces were printed, the panel plate and gps pilot mounting.
Everything worked great; except the $75 ebay "NOS" uma gauge... it did not work correctly... so the gauge was removed and dismantled for inspection. Inside was found corrosion on the primary lever arm. So the arm got polished and unit bench tested. Testing showed the bellows was leaking; a very ineffective climb/descend gauge; opening the gauge and seeing the inside quality it is a $30 piece of average; not a single ruby bearing anywhere to be seen; the case is not even magnesium; somebody is making a gigantic profit margin here... So in the end an auto garage vacuum pressure gauge was fitted to extract data information with prior to swapping out the 80hp to 100hp.
Now need to replace UMA gauge with a functioning unit; very dissapointing when people on ebay sell something as "new" and it ends up arriving ready for the garbage bin.

Questionable whether or not there is actually any "fair value" in this unit if purchased new... |

This mechanism is really average; so average it would be better value to just purchase a chinese manufactured unit at a fair value price point. |

The arm had corrosion on it causing action to be notchy and inconsistent; polishing to a super smooth finish resolved the issue |

Bench testing the UMA unit. As vacuum or pressure is maintained the needle on the UMA gauge would normalise, gradually return to 30inHg over about 10min, indicating a leaking bellows. |
