It is time to rotate the Aero Trainer tires on the 6A. Left main is about smooth on the outside edge. Have been considering replacing the tires and tubes instead of rotating. If rotated, how much more time (or landings) in relation to the original mounting should I get out of the tires?

When I do replace the tires, I think I will 'bite the bullet' and go with the the Michelin Airstop tubes. Should I go with the Airstop tubes even if I rotate?

Would like comments/experience on which brand/model tire has given the best service on the trike tapered rod landing gear mains, please.

Thanks

I got same # of ldgs. on rotated tires, about 6 mos. (at)
side. Since wear is on inside, it hasn't hurt to run
til tread on inside is low. Reno

Yesterday, I proceeded with rotating my tires since I did not have the new tubes and tires on hand and had to do something now or wait a month or so.

Found something that is baffling me. On the inboard side of each wheel, I found two spots of something between the bead of the tire and the wheel. It appeared to be waxy on the surface but was hard and tenaciously stock to the wheel. Upon removal I found that it had pitted the rim of both aluminum wheels. Does not appeared to have affected the tire .

Could this be brake fluid that got into the bead area when I did the brake fluid fill? Can not think of what else it could be. Don't remember what I used to lubricate the tire and tube when I installed the tires several years ago.

Any thoughts??

Mike,
Have you used the Goodyear Flite Custom IIs before? I remember reading that
one of the upgrade tires had more "shoulder" rubber where the RVs tend to
wear more. Do the Flite Custom II have the extra thickness?

Dale,
As I recall, I had used them on the 170 a few years ago, and do not recall
any premature wearing. The price difference makes up for any premature
wear ($59 vs $113). I do not know if there is any additional shoulder
thickness (probably not since they are discontinued).

order today for two Flite Custom II and Airstop tubes

just fyi,
I did get my N-number reservation in the mail yesterday, so I guessed
N781RW correctly! Now I've just got to decide between the 7 & 8...

Next time anyone's going to be in Wilmington or nearby and doesn't
mind letting me clamber in for a couple of minutes that would help. I
know I'll fit in an 8 (thanks Len!) but Greta is beginning to show
some interest in the 7, so I'd like to try that on for size...
literally!

Talked to my developer today and they're 3-weeks AHEAD of schedule,
so I may have a garage to get started in by the early summer if
things keep going as planned.

do not archive

The retreads I just installed on plane last night are FCII's. They seem
to be plenty thick. Stiffer sidewall too. I haven't tried to get the
wheel pants back on yet, but I think I'm going to like them.

Plenty thick, huh?

Check the wheel pant clearance _really carefully_ before you blast off
for a fly-in after fitting new tires of a different brand. Otherwise
you might discover a smoke system you didn't know you had.

I don't know what made me think of that. Leggs, help me out here Wink

The first time I replaced the tires on my -6, I had to rebuild the wheel
pants... went from Van's tires to Condor's (Michelin), which I still
use. They're cheap from Desser and seem to last. Got the leak-guard
tubes, too, and they work well.
