Original Message:
I am in the process of purchasing a KitFox, and need a
way to get it home.
Does anyone have or know of anyone that has an
enclosed trailer that will accept a Model IV
Speedster...?
I have an open Skystar trailer (not 4 Sale) that came
with my plane. It has one axle and carries the
aircraft with wings folded just fine without damage
behind a vehicle as light as a Jeep. I saw a website
not long ago that has quite a few KF trailers 4 Sale,
mostly home made, including enclosed. I think it was
referenced on this list.
If you haul it, be sure the transport vehicle is
lightly sprung or the aircraft is properly cushioned
and adequately secured from shifting or rocking
against the sides. Years ago I used truck inner tubes
to support aircraft and parts being hauled on open
trucks and trailers. My son has hauled wings
successfully by cradling them with ropes suspended in
a cattle trailer. It seems that an enclosed trailer
runs the risk of damage to the aircraft in loading and
unloading or load shifting.
Airplanes are meant to be flown. If it is airworthy
and you are not prepared to fly it home yourself,
contact me off list and I can give you the name of a
pilot with lots of Kitfox time who may be interested
in ferrying it for you to supplement his income. He
stopped commercial flying for a career change.
