I am ready to paint the instrument panel and would like a soft gray

semi-gloss or matte finish.

Any suggestions?

Hi Ed;



Something to look at are the various "art fixative sprays" that are sold 

in art supply stores  to protect paintings, watercolours, etc.  Paint 

your panel in a shade of gray to suit your taste, add letraset or other 

lettering, and then spray overall to get a nice even matte or other 

finish. These materials are available in a variety of finish textures 

and even shades of off-clear.



Probably not as durable as paint but should provide the subtle finish 

you are probably looking for. There probably won't be a lot of wear on 

you panel in any case except maybe around some of the more used switches.



As usual, try a few sample pieces to see what there results are before 

attacking your real panel.

Use a matte finish. I used a gloss white on my panel and when flying at

night,even with low inst. lighting I get a reflection of the panel in the

canopy. It is annoying !
