Hello all,
I have a few questions on 601hd brakes. I am installing matco wheels and
brakes.
1) I have looked at several pics and noticed the bleeder screws at the top
of the caliper on some planes and the bottom on others is one way correct ?
2) On the install Kit from ZAC you get 3x 90 degree elbows and 1x180
degree. I put the 180 on the right pilot pedal is this correct (I only have
the plans no assembly documentation)
3) What brake fluid should I use. Will Dot 5 silicon based be OK ?

Gord,
I put the bleeder at the bottom so that I could fill the system using the
"pump from the bottom" technique. Worked well and kept the bubbles out.
I also used Dot 5 with no problems for 12 years.

You can move the bleeder screw to the bottom, it makes no difference which
side it's on. I was told to use 5606 hydraulic fluid and it works just fine.

Gord,
The brakes are easiest to install in the orientation shown on this
link. Brake assembly shown inside, low and angled to the rear.
This puts your hose connection up and the bleeder down. Also makes axle
disassembly for inspection or tire repair much
easier for handling spacers, washers etc. Keeps the assembly inside
wheel fairings if you plan to use them.

Gord,
DOT 5 is what is recommended for Matco brakes. Bleeder screws are
better placed downward
to avoid putting the drained fluids on the brakes at disassembly. Also
you need to maintain the strength of the
fork, so angling the brake assembly back at 45 degrees will help with
that. I used 90s on the cylinders to
permit the hoses to curve thru 270 degrees while returning to the hard
lines at the center console.
