I am drilling holes in my Vetterman exhaust for the EGT probes and made
a dumb mistake on cyl. #3. I put a 1/8" hole in it about 1/2" too
high. In that position the hoseclamp that holds on the probe interferes
with the pin that's welded to the exhaust that locks the 2 pieces of
pipe together. I can drill another hole in a better position, but how
do I safely close up the unwanted hole?

Been there, done that. Take it to any of the aviation muffler
places and they'll weld the hole shut. In my case, I drove
to the St. Paul area and they did it for me on the spot in
10 minutes. It was Aerospace Welding. If you have it done
by a local, be aware that aviation mufflers should be welded
using a specific type of welding rod. They can be obtained
from these welding shops.

Oh my. Been there done that ... also.

The guy that welded up mine filled the inside of the tube with
whatever inert gas they're using. He had a special adapter
that plugged one end of the pipe and fed in the gas, the other
end was covered with aluminum foil with a pin hole in it to let
the gas flow through. That way there's no oxidation on either
side of the weld - which he told me was can be an issue with
thin stainless.
