Build both wings at once? (CH701)

I'm working on the right wing skeleton now and was wondering what previous builders thought about building the left wing simultaneously. ( YES, the slats are going on! )

It seems that doing the setup while it's fresh in your mind would be a big efficiency boost, but I'm also afraid of making duplicate mistakes. In this case storage of the incomplete wings will not be a problem.

I know this question has been asked before, but I couldn't find anything in the archives.

Thoughts?

Hi John,

When I started the wings on my 801 I built any brackets, drilled holes, primed, etc, all the parts I could for both wings. After completing the 1st one and figuring out what goes where I am now building the 2nd one. It will probably take no more than half the time that the other one did. The choice is yours, but if I were to do it again, I would do the same thing. There is a certain learning curve. Once you have that down and have the miscellaneous parts ready it really goes fast. It's also helpful to have the first one sitting there for a reference.

I am right there now. I have been making both skins at the same time but because of space constraints I can't assemble them at the same time. However, I may fixture the right top skin before I skin the bottom of the left one I just finished the top rear on. It all depends on how strong the structure is with only the top rear skin clecoed and tack riveted. If I can store it and build up the other wing I will let you know. If I had the space I would build them both at the same time.

Here we are one day later and I decided to finish the left wing first. Reason: Less handling of the part during manufacturing. Or lazy, you choose. Laughing

Ron,

myself, I built LH first since it is the most complicated with lights etc..

I did modify all L/H and R/H ribs as required while building the LH wing. Form this, when you get to the opposing side the time difference on what you spend on the second wing is measurably different to your favor.

Good Luck

That's funny. I did it the other way around for exactly the same reason.
