Dave,
I'll jump in on this one if I may. Lets see, SPEED SPEED. first. It's
sort of like those gadgets you used to could buy for your car that would
give you a boost of X% per gadget. If you bought all of them and installed
then in your car you would have to remove gasoline from your tank daily
because of the savings. Now, if you put every single speed improvement on a
given Kitfox it will go faster. However, the gain will probably be about as
fast as you can walk. What's that, 5- 6 MPH....A given Kitfox only goes so
fast...
BETTER COOLING. Now, we are getting to the real issue. To add a simple
fairing around the radiator is going to improve the cooling. How much,
maybe 5 degrees or tops 10. To fully control coolant temps (especially 582)
can get to be complex. Been there and done that.

Hey Don and John , Thanks for the info on the Scoops.

I really Like Don's prediction is 5 mph gain. I think I lost 1 or 2 mph
from those King fox tires I put on but really cannot confirn till I get to
go 5 minutes one way. It been far too much fun landing everywhere,
mud, slop ,snow, ice , water. etc Smile I will have to go get some speed
tests done. We under heavy snow squall right now,but hopefully later today
I will see if the King fox an handle 6 inches of snow or not.

Heating - Well I really have not had any issues with heating. I have read
others have lowered rad etc. Mine rad I will guess is about 6 inches
forward of the Tube gear. How does that compare to others ? Mine is 4 x 20
by about 2 inches thick. I think it is the same as a 912 rad. Gary Walsh's
Rad on his 912S looks the same to me.

Airdrag- I think the rad fairing scoop might help a bit but I think the
large opening in the round cowl could actually be a bit more airdrag. ( is
that the correct term ? ) I might close mine up a bit by making a winter
front out of alum and screw it on to try.

My 582 IV runs at best about 90 mph with the old tires 15 tall and about
6 inch wide golf cart style. I think the 582 just runs out of torque
there. I can go WOT to 102 103 mph . New tires are about 20 ot 21 incjes
tall and about 9+ " wide. but more of a rounded tire and not a flat tread.
( the braking is really non- existant now)

I have 3 fuel tanks and that big clunky cap on the dash tank must add a
little drag as well but I ma certainly no expert on streamlining.

Dave,
You might have misunderstood what I meant. I used 5 MPH as an example
not saying at all you will get that much increase if any. I didn't really
notice any change in speed after installing mine. Just out of curiosity,
how do you measure 1 MPH.

GPS,

easieest way to calculate.
ASI just a indication of airspeed, not always to scale but fairly
consistant.
eg -- My ASI reads 105 when my calculated airspeed is about 88 to 90 mph
It seems that my airpseed has slowed 1 or 2 mph with hte larger tires on.

btw i was out a few hour ago and those King Fox tires will get you flying in
8 " of snow
