I am at the point that I need to start looking at where to mount my antennas. I'm planning on using a bent whip antenna somewhere on the belly for the com and the wing tip antenna for the VOR Nav.  I've been told to ensure to that the Com antenna is atleast 3' from the nearest obstruction, ie landing gear legs. Where are most people sticking their antennas for Com, Nav, Transponder, and ELT to get the best results on 6/7/9A's? Additionally, are you guys with the wingtip Nav antennas happy with their performance?
Thanks,
Jason Rowe

Jason,

The RV6 I owned had the bent whip comm antenna mounted on the belly dead centered between the two exhaust tubes. It was around 6 inches aft of the firewall. I know that was definitely less then 3' from the main gear, but it worked. In the three years I had the plane the comm radio always worked perfectly. About once a month I would wipe the belly down and wipe off the antenna. No problems.

As for the transponder it was mounted on the belly just aft of the baggage area. Again never got a complaint from ATC.
I didn't have a NAV. GPS was mounted on a bracket on the aft cabin wall and the ELT was also in side the cabin

Happy building,

I placed my bent whip commant just forward the main spar between the coverplate and the spar web. When placed under your left thigh in that place the Transponder can go under the right side same place. Both are out of the flow of the exhaust and don't require cleaning often. They work great and they are out of sight.
