Tony K's fuel gauge measures the weight of the fuel above sensor at the bottom of the tank and uses a computer to express this as fuel quantity. msi sensors (www.msiusa.com) sells a sensor called Level Master, Model LM. This is a 1 psig sensor that requires 5 VDC and outputs .5 to 4.5 VDC. A simple 5 volt regulator could provide the supply voltage and the output could be supplied to an analog voltmeter. The supplied sensor is in a PVC housing which may not stand up to gasoline, but an aluminum replacement could easily be made. The LM31-0000-001PG sells for 85 USD. 12 inches of fuel is about .3 psig.
