The last two or three flights I found myself a bit high from downwind to
final and attributed it to not paying enough attention to the details, but I
went up Friday for a couple of short local flights and found that I couldn't
get the RPMs below about 3300 on final and when on the ground it wouldn't
idle below 2100.

I checked out the linkage and found that I was about .060 from the idle
stops and everything in the cables etc. looked OK.

Has anyone else had what appears to be cable stretch in the throttle
linkage? This might also expain why starts have been a bit harder as with
cable stretch (?), I haven't been able to close the throttle enough for the
start system (choke) in the carburetor to become effective.

I had that happen on my IV. The symptom I had was covering most of
the length of the runway at 20 feet with the throttle at idle. She
just wouldn't slow down! Ultimately I pushed it onto the ground
(which wasn't very graceful). If I had been thinking, I'd have just
shut off the ignition... Smile

I was never happy with the original cables I used so I ended up
replacing them with something more sturdy and didn't have any more
trouble.
