I'm rebroadcasting this email it didn't seem to make it to the list.

Steved.

I’m one of the three builders of XS Tri-Gear G-CHOX. We will soon be having the aircraft painted shiny white, and are starting to think about the exterior design graphics. Some questions for the forum:

1. Has any one used a UK graphic designer, and what were the costs and results?
2. Can anyone recommend a UK graphics company to produce the transfers or adhesive-backed vinyl decals?
3. What are the things to watch out for?
4. The ‘Registration Letters’ kit sold by Europa 04 has letters which are significantly smaller than those mandated by the CAA in CAP 523. Is this a problem that one can ignore as most seem to?
5. The Europa Decal Design Kit sold by Europa 04 (as shown on the demonstrator G-KITZ) assumes no registration letters on the fuselage side, only on the tail fin. This would be totally unacceptable to the CAA, wouldn’t it?

Any other thoughts or advice would be welcome.

Steve,

I notice nobody has replied to your request for information on graphics so I
will have a go.

I used the factory registration letters and there has been no problem with
the size. There is a paragraph somewhere in the regulations that gives some
relief on size if it is not practical to fit the full size. The CAA don’t
like the registration on the fin but there are a few aerobatic aircraft
flying around with this location.

Vehicle graphics supply is a very crowded market so you should not have too
much trouble finding a local supplier. I used a small company in Horsham,
my nearest town, who worked off a rough draft that I produced and they came
to my house and fitted the decals for me. My design was simple and just one
colour. There is no doubt this kept the costs down. There were 8
individual decals and the total cost was only UKP 170. I have attached a
picture so that you can see what I got for the money.

I was very satisfied with the result.

The company was Signs first. Tel 01403 240008

Steve
I might add you can have your letters laser cut too, I had mine done
with one side leaning forward and the otherside leaning back to match
the sweep back of the fin. Bolt upright letters don't lok right to me.
Neither does bolt upright seating position, but Ivan didn't listen
unfortunately for those of is with delicate backs

Steve,
Ask for 3M or Fascal vinyl, most of the other makes will fade in a very short time, these two brands are colour fast for 8 years, guaranteed.
Cheers,
Nev.
