I've been following this thread just like I usually do when someone
complains about ACS. There is one question I have on this. Why is it that
Van's prices for his kits did not go up by 30-40% when other companies seem
to be hit by a huge price increase for aluminum? I must be missing
something. Aren't his kits primarily of aluminum? Knowing he cuts cost to
the bone, his profit margins are so thin that he'd have to pass the
increases to his customers. I saw very little increase on anything.

I beg to differ. I've found other American companies in the same business
who are competive on the same types of items and do a better job of customer
satisfaction for me. Granted, some in the list have had no problems with
ACS, or may not recognize poor service when they see it; but, I've had
enough trouble in the past with ACS that I tried other American business
sources. I'm still buying the same type and brand items; so, service is the
key for me. Companies such as Wicks, Chief, and San-Val have gotten my
business and have all done well by me on everything I've ordered from them.
When Alexander Aircraft was in business in GA, it was a fine little company
to do business with. Unfortunately, it was bought by ACS. I miss that
little company that had good prices and great service. Oh, yeah. You newer
folks know it as ACS East. I don't order from them, anymore.
As Chuck suggested, the way to find out if this increase is just with ACS is
to shop around. Checking with some of the better known companies should
give one an idea without having to compare to dusty old items that have been
on a shelf for a while.

I, too, have ordered thousands of dollars in product from ACS. For some
reason, that made no difference in customer service than if I'd bought the
penny parts. In fact, one order I made that was thousands of dollars was
what got me to finally give up on ACS.

Unfortunately, I've had to wait a lot longer than that on ACS items shipped
to me from right here in the U.S. China may be the better choice if it has
a short lead time. One example a friend had with ACS while we were
building his -9A. I warned him to not order his fluid lines from ACS; but,
he did, anyway. After about three weeks, he called to see about his lines.
They hadn't been ordered by ACS, yet! The guy who took the order went on
vacation and didn't even bother to order his lines! That held up the
project for a long time. I tried to warn him; but, he had to find out the
hard way. That's the kind of service that caused me to quit ACS. I had
enough of it to happen to me, and to others I know, that I decided they
weren't the only game in town. If they ever get to be, well........
