I am a new member and interested in the Lightning. It sounds too good to be true, so I wanted to know any drawbacks, issues or disappointments any of you have had. I currently have a Dragonfly but can't haul any luggage so I really want REAL figures on payload, cruise speed, etc.

A negative I'm acutely aware of is the limited baggage, and
nonexistent baggage if you include a parachute (BRS).
The baggage limit is 50 lbs, and only 10 lbs if you include a BRS.
Flying is dangerous enough that I decided to put a BRS on my current
airplane, and I am loathe to fly a faster airplane with a faster
stall speed without one.
I never want to be in a situation wishing I had a parachute, when I
could have had one, and didn't install one.

Just out of curiosity, what are you flying now and what is its' current
stall speed?

I have a Titan Tornado II. It cruises at 110 mph on 3.6 gph and
stalls at 35 mph with flaps, 42 without. It will get into and out of
a 1000' grass strip.
It also has limited baggage, as in none if you have a passenger. In
case anyone's taking notes on designing a new airplane, I'd like 75
lbs, and I'll be happy to trade baggage weight for passenger weight
or fuel. The Tornado has tandem seating, which is great for elbow
room and not so great for sharing the flying experience. On the plus
side, the view for the pilot cannot be beat. It's like sitting in an
Omnimax theatre at 1000 feet.
How do you like your Dragonfly? I imagine it's very easy on gas, and
cruise is higher than mine.

Love the Dragonfly, except for only being able to carry me, my wife & about 25 pounds that have to split up into small bags.
Fully loaded & full fuel, I cruise at 135-140mph. By myself, cruise is 150mph at 4.5gph.

Greg,
Always wanted to have a chance to fly a dragonfly. Neat looking machine.
I can tell you that you'll get a little more baggage into the Lightning,
with two people, cruise a little faster (about 170-175mph) and burn a little
more (about 5.5 gph). I imagine that the dragonfly is pretty responsive,
and so is the Lightning. Welcome to the message board though. My name is
Brian Whittingham and I will be doing some flight testing for a speed mod in
the near future. (flap hinge fairings and gap seals for aileron, elevator,
and flaps) I don't work for Arion, but have from time to time flown the 40
hours time off of customer's planes. I am by SYI a couple of times a week
at least. Brian W.
