Malcom, here is the plan of the wheel penetrating skis I made a few

They were made by a friend who is a professional welder, from my
drawing based on photos of an Avid Flyer ski. Lynn, on this list, has
made something similar, although with small changes. There are
certainly many solutions; pick the one you feel most comfortable with
and ... good luck.
