Wondering what type of bracket any of your RV-4 builders used to attach the crotch strap and also, have any of you used Van's canopy safety latch with the reverse action in the canopy closure ie. forward to go not forward to open

Not sure if your talking front or rear seat. Front I used a triangular piece of (.125 I think or maybe lighter) and bolted to two of the center wing splice plate bolts and used a #4 bolt thru to the seat belt attach. Rear, I just went around the flap actuator shaft.

Wally - havnt got to the canopy yet but the front and back 5th point attach is in quite a few of the pictures here. Double click on them to blow them up.

Hope that helps.

Wally,
I attached the front crotch strap to one of my spar bolts. Still works great after 1500 hours. My canopy handle is spring loaded aft when closed. Works great. I installed a taxi postion "hold open" pin in my roll bar that also acts as a safety catch in case it came open for some unknown reason. It slides through the center canopy bulkhead. Hope that helps.

Wally, Also, I used a standard seat belt strap attach bracket to connect the crotch strap to the spar bolt up front. I don't have a rear crotch strap as I plan on my back seat passenger being female...
When I bought the crotch strap from Van's it came already set up. All I had to do was bolt it on.

I have a Hooker 5 point in my -4. I made a triangular piece out of 1/8" steel. Bolted the base of the triangle to the two center top main spar bolts on the firewall side. I did not need to find longer spar bolts but used AN364 thin lock nuts..just had the min thread clearance. Found that I had to cut a relief in my seat cushion...so as I moved up, or hung in the straps, the crotch strap would not compress the seat cushion, allow the lap belt to ride up, and let me bonk my head on the canopy.
