All-
Wow! This is the way things should work- tons of ideas rather than locked and loaded flamethrowers! The main points are:
1. What's the sense of the wood template if all you're using it for is to check the final bend?
2. Larry Mac's jig makes sense from a physics standpoint. An HF bender is ideal if you want to spend the money (Or find a place to store it, in my case).
3. You have to make sure the bend occurs perpendicular to the workbench or you induce an axial twist.
Here's my basic idea- feel free to chime in-
1. Cut the center chunk of the template (Between the straight parts) out of 2x4.
2. Cut a kerf on the top and bottom of your little template the thickness and width of the L.
3. Set the rollers of Larry's jig maybe 10mm outboard of the 850mm on the left side of the template and the 100mm on the right side of the template.
4. Use a c-clamp to drive the template into the L angle. You might have to do a little tweaking, but not much.
Thoughts?

Hi Bill,
If you have the template as nothing more than a left and right line on
the table, you're there. Just bend the thing and you'll find out that
you'll have it
done in less than 30 minutes both sides including adjustments. A
template can be flipped to assure symmetry. Just pushing into a
template will leave
you with a need for another 10 degrees or more. Easier to bend just a
little bit at a time to come up on a line or template.

Larry-
In other words, I'm making it more complicated than necessary. I have
some 10' long cardboard I can draw the template on and blew $4 on the
components to build your jig. Guess I'm committed now!

Thats the way to do it Bill. Metal has spring back and always needs to be bent a little farther than the final result. Do as Larry says, sneak up on it a little at a time. That setup will give you the control you need.

Ron+All-
I'm not reinventing the wheel, I'm trying to combine the good points of
different ways to do something while avoiding the bad. The main thing is,
I'm pleased about all the ideas. I'll wind up with a jig that's a
combination of what's been done in the past with a smidgen of my own input.
