Jim: Great response, thanks! I am looking to build up an experimental engine based on an IO-540K bottom end (crank and crankcase) but with appropriate lighter weight (not K model) cylinders. Not sure at this moment which those would be, but I understand a number of builders have done this. You probably know much more about this option than me---I'd appreciate any information you could provide. The idea is to build a higher compression engine with strongerhorsepower performance than an IO-540C4B5 (something in the neighborhood of 280-310hp for example), but using the more robust "K model" bottom end. What cylinders would you recommend for a project like this? I will begin with Slicks but plan to go to an EMag/PMag configuration whenever they finally come out with them for 6-cylinder Lycomings. Planning on using FI and a cold air induction system (if I can find one!). Anyother suggestions would be welcome.

Okay, I'll start this off!I'm looking for cylinders for my IO-540
project. If anyone can steer me to a source of good, rebuilt 540 cylinders
(I prefer Titan Cerminil, but will consider others ), I would greatly
appreciate it.There is an AD out on certain serial numbers of ECi's
"classic" cylinders that doesn't apply to the Cerminil.I have a core,
mags, ignition harness, etc. but need cylinders, cam, etc.Help!!
Thanks!
Lee...

Hi I'm J.B. at ECi,
Please note that the Titan cylinders are new ones that we manufacture
now and are not affected by the AD. The Titan cylinders are available
with either standard steel or Nickel + Carbide ( CermiNil ) barrels.
The Classic Cast cylinders were new ones made here between 1/1997 and
8/2001 that are affected by an AD. They were made with both steel and
CermiNil barrels too. We are offering replacements for affected
cylinders at a discount and with a labor allowance for removal &
replacement.
ECi carries both new and overhauled cylinders for most Lycoming Engines.
The new Titan cylinders that we have now are the parallel valve types,
we are working diligently on the angle valve types and hope to have the
FAA/PMA approval on them by the end of the year. If you have your IO 540
engine model, ( for example; IO 540 C4B5) we can quote both new and
overhauled with the barrel options. We can also overhaul your existing
cylinders. We make cams, lifters, and many other FAA PMA approved new
parts as well.
Kind Regards,
Jim Ball
