Hello to all:
My name is Bob Atkinson, Lumberton, NJ and I have a question re: a
statement I read on the Serve e-m dated 1/23, posted by Ron Awad.
If I understand the statement a "builder of an aircraft (or his heirs,
estate etc) has a permanent liability to any/and all future owners or passengers
of said airplane", is this correct?
REASON FOR ASKING:
I am contemplating building an RV 7A.
However, in the event of my departure from planet earth, my would want to
dispose of the plane -- having no use for it herself.
I don't wish to place the burden of potential liability upon her and that is
what caught my attention when I read Ron Awad's e-m.
Any answers and or comments would be greatly appreciated and I want to thank
anyone who would take the time to respond.
P S I have been eavesdropping on the Serv em for about two years and I
really do enjoy hearing all of you talk about your experiences and adventures.

If you expect to last at least 18 years after it's registered, current
law says your liability as manufacturer will end there. If you crash &
damage something or someone in the meantime, you or your estate still
can be sued, but the same applies to driving a car. (FWIW, the
likelihood of hurting another person, other than a passenger in your
plane, is pretty remote unless you have a ramp incident.)
If your estate can afford to take the financial hit, you/she can scrap
the plane or donate it to a museum with provision that it never be flown.
