Steve, I just checked mine and I have a half inch lip all around that makes full contact with the bulkhead all the way around and is hinged on the bottom for access. The weight of the seatback cushion holds it in place. I,ve rolled it many times and it has never moved. If I had a digital camera I could take a photo of it for you. It,s on my list.

I am putting the rear seat frame together, and puzzling how the weight
of the pax leaning back in it is to be taken by the bulkhead. Is the
intent that the point contact of the side channels to the bulkhead is
the mechanism? It appears a bit crude!
Thanks, Steve.

Check Van's website.
There is a Service Bulletin (SB 97-05-1), which addresses this very issue.
The SB entails installing angles, (or gussets), between the rear
seat/baggage bulkhead, and the longerons.

Steve,
If you restrict your back seat usage to petite, cute girls, you will never have
a problem...

Derek - Thanks. Yes, I have read the SB but think that relates to the steel
bracket supporting the bulkhead itself. I have those installed. What I am
puzzling about is the fact that on the front side of the bulkhead the
contact is with the sharp edge of the seat frame. I have put a couple of
pictures

on my blog to try and make my concern clearer. Am I misunderstanding
something?
Cheers, Steve

Still would like to build the thing right though!
