The easy way to treat the ends of firesleeve is to mix toulene and Hi Temp RTV (red) 50 /50. Dip ends in and allow liquid to wick up into the material inside firesleeve. Wick 2" deep on end. Let hose dry before installing. You can store the left over in a glass jar in the refrigerator.

The kids would love to put this pretty red "syrup" they find in the refrigerator on their waffles in the morning Shocked

Jim/Heather:

Can you use other type solvents such as Zylene, Keytone, or mineral spirits
rather than Toluene to do the same thing?

Hugh,

At the PAMA seminar they specificially mentioned Toluene. We'd guess other agressive solvents would be OK but don't know for sure. We don't think mineral spirits would work.
