Scott-
Automatically trimming your posts in some cases is counterproductive.
The string you're referring to produced some damned important information,
but you'd never know it if you were just reading the digest. I'm probably
the reason for your complaint. Mea culpa. Here are my suggestions and the
way I'll post effective immediately:
1. Subject lines have to be more specific. I was frustrated and had as a
subject line, "Aaargh". Fine while you're discussing a problem real-time,
but worthless when researching the archives.
2. The string in many cases should remain intact until a problem is
resolved so all listers can understand a problem and offer their input. At
the point of problem resolution, "Do not archive" should be added to the
post. It should be the responsibility of the original poster to summarize
the string and place a concise post for the archives.
3. Scott, I agree with you 100%, but there's a conflict between what
shows up on the digest and what's going on real time. .
I killed the last string by adding "Do not archive". Then I realized
that the answer to my final question, motor mount bolt size, never made it
into the archives. What I'm going to do is add a post for the archives with
a specific subject line. No one need respond to it.
