Now that you talked propellers, There is a limit in size & weight (mass?), given the giroscopic forces over the reduction drive... Read about it but cant remember where.

I am curious what might be advantages/disadvantages using a 2, 3 or 4-blade propeller on a 701 using a Rotax 912UL/912ULS. Would there be a performance advantage on a 701 during take-off etc.?

Most effective is one blade propeller. More blades You have more quite
propeller will be itself, and also engine will have to work on lower RPM.

One blade would be just a little unbalanced, wouldn't it? Two might be
better.
Just kidding, I know what you meant.

Larry have you been up yet? Wondering how those wings and engine perform. Was
wondering how much better the spped was with those wings.

Man I tell you I am snake bit. I got a lemon with my hog engine, it's going
back to the factory. The engine is going to be replaced, not fixed. Ran
fine until I put a prop on it. Then it started running really bad, low oil
pressure, started running hot, dieseled, blowing soot, running rich and so
on. Acted like the timing jumped, but I think the oil pressure was so low
it wouldn't keep the lifters pumped up. I think someone at the "American"
factory left out the "O" ring in the oil pump. It never had good oil
pressure from the get-go. According to the service manual it should have
between 30 and 38 psi, it never had over 22 psi at high RPM and idles at 3
psi. The oil in the oil tank will drain into the crankcase in 24 hours. I
know some oil will pass thru the pump over a period of time, that is normal,
but it's about a tea cup in 6 months. Hog-Air is really being good helping
me with this, certainly isn't their fault. Brett is doing everything he can
to make it right. Just my luck to get one put together by a drunk with a
hangover on Monday morning or someone wanting to get drunk on a Friday
afternoon.

This has really screwed up my plans to fly it to Sun N' Fun. By the time I
get my new engine, get the plane inspected and fly the 40 off, Sun N' Fun
will be over. So I guess me and my Dodge will go. See you guys there.

Larry,
Sorry to hear about your engine woes. At least they are willing to replace it
and start again. I have been seriously thinking about the Pegasus wing now
that I am flying my 701 with the Zenith wing. I am used to flying a Piper Arrow
4 and I am not used to these slow speeds. Not to say that I can't get used to
it but I was wondering if there is anyone else out there flying with the
Pegasus wing and how much different the performance is. Also I noticed that you
said they are not producing the wing right now. Do you know the reason why and if
they will start up again? I won't make it to Sun n Fun this year, leaving for
Ghana for 9 weeks.

Hello Larry,

I went to your page... But couldnt find where are the air inlets in the cowling, to cool your engine...
Probably is the angle of the front photo.

Beautiful bird, Larry! Where is the air inlet for the air cooled engine? Looks like the inlets are filled with landing lights.

Hopefully Raymond Miller, the new owner, will be in production this summer.
Watch my site, as soon as he gets it going, I will post it. Plus I will be
building his new site. Larry, www.skyhawg.com.

I started off with 1/4" opening around the landing lites, plan to open them
as needed, if needed. Brett tells me he had a hard time keeping his engine
warn enough. I may also open my hog nose if needed. Thanks for asking,
Larry, www.skyhawg.com.
P.S. Cowling wasn't on when it ran hot, plus I had a high speed fan blowing
40 degree air on it.
