A few days ago someone suggested using a fly cutter rather than investing in multiple hole saws. The choice is a personal preference of course but I thought I'd offer a hint in favor of using a fly cutter.

When you have completed the adjustment and the cut you will have a circle of waste material with the 1/4" pilot hole in its center. My advice is to store those in a box somewhere handy. You might want to identify them with a fine Sharpie. Later on, if you have to find the center of the large hole you just cut out, the waste material will make it much easier to do that. For instance you might be using a finished piece as the layout pattern for another piece. In that situation, being able to set the waste piece centered in the hole is very helpful in locating the center pilot hole for the next piece.

That doesn't work as well with a holesaw because the kerf of the holesaw removes more material making repositioning more difficult.
