What is the advantage of using the cork strips that Zenith specifies over
silicon rubber (specifically cowling baffle strips). I'm planning the
mounting of my header tank and I have the silicon on-hand.

Also, if I go that with the cork, what is a good source?

Hey Craig,
McMaster-Carr has a large selection of cork and rubber including self adhesive strip. Just type "cork" in the search window.

Would not one consideration be that the cork is substantially lighter?

I bought mine from McMaster, and I got a few samples of alternative materials while I was at it. The cork is by far the lightest. Like Dave mentioned I got the self adhesive cork strips.

And the cork costs less.

Craig,
Cork is a good cushion when little movement is needed. Anything that
causes movement in
cork will eventually crumble cork. Good for pads or insulate, bad for
anything that gets bent
or deformed regularly. Silicone is the way to go for cowl baffle strips.
