A word of warning about the AC Spruce homebuilder gascolator. I just returned from the Hangar to find a huge stain under the cowling and tailwheel. I had dismanteled and checked the filter screens in the gascolator the week before, re assembled them CHECKED for leaks did not see any and went home. My hangar buddy called me a couple days later to tell me about a stain on the floor. Turns out I spilled 28 galls of fuel through the rubber seal in the gascolator. It was a hot day here in So Cal when I checked the screens and re assembled them, I have a feeling that's why it did not leak there was just enough expansion in the rubber and aluminum to make the seal. When it all cooled down and shrank it started to leak. when I checked the rubber seal it has tiny crackes around the periphery also. So this needs replacing 1 per year it seems.

Just a word to the wise.

At today's fuel prices that's probably well over $100 spilled on the floor. Good thing you found the leak before flight, however.

They are also the same as for flathead Ford fuel pump sediment bowls, and are usually rubberized cork and last longer than plain cork and don't squirm as much as the rubber.

I had a similar experience over 20 years ago when fuel was cheaper. I had gotten out of the habit of turning the fuel supply off before heading home from the hangar. Thanks for reminding me. Eric

Red's Headers, the business that I used to own, has them.
I'll get a part number tomorrow and post it here.

The mfg part number is 2081, I believe. Note that this will appear as the ALU in their program, not the item number
If you call Red's Headers at 760 343 2590, Jim Davis is the new owner.
or you can order online at reds-headers.net

OK, I've got six of them here. I will put one in 100LL tomorrow and see what it does. They appear to be the same as the one that I used on our Bellanca.

Eric,
One has been in 100LL for 5 days now, neither the gasket nor the gasoline appear to be changed in any way, so far.
Want me to send you one to try?
On another note, 31 May is the last day to register for the 2007 Airventure Cup race.

Red,
No rush. I will pick it up at Boo or Oshkosh if that's OK? I won't have gas in my gascolator for a couple of years yet. Eric
