Hi everyone,
My name is Ben Ramler. I used to be a member of the list. I discontinued my membership because I was on to many lists. I find myself rejoining because I still have an interest in the 701. I'm interested in the 701 because I like the low and slow capability that it offers. for me speed is not required. I was wondering if there any 701 owners in the upper midwest or Minnesota. How are the kits? what is visibility like out of them?
Thanks & take Care,
Ben

Hey Ben. I just got started on the 701 having attended
the Zenith Workshop in March of '07 and really enjoyed
it. My wife went with me and that really helped as she
was quite involved right from the beginning. I am
buying the components kit, and have completed the
rudder, elevator, and horizontal stabilizer, and I
picked up my wing and fuel system kits on May 17. I
have the right wing, spar and ribs built except for a
couple of minor touches.
The kit is well built, straightforward, and I find the
prints quite easy to read. You have to take your time
and study just a bit, but that is part of the
experience. This is my first attempt at building and I
wish I had done it sooner. I love it.
I had a test flight in the 701 in Mexico, MO and the
visibility with the bubble doors is very good. If you
can find a way to go to a Rudder Workshop, do it, or
just visit the factory and take a test flight. The
folks in Mexico are very nice and extremely helpful
with everything I've needed since I started. There are
at least 3 701's being built here near the Quad-Cities
and one of them is plans built and about to fly. As
they say on the Zenith promotional video, "Just do
it". Take care.
