Please advise me on this: any know the hard differentiating factors that would drive someone to choose one or the other? In the old days ZCP was the only way to go. Now I keep hearing about the ZPP - and it is cheaper...
Thanks.

I hope this does not become a debate like red or green
Scotchbrite. Simply stated, there is no effective
substitute for hexavalent chromium for corrosion
protection of aircraft aluminum alloys. It is even
"self healing" if scratched. Phosphates may be better
for iron and steel. Having said that, 6061 is much
more corrosion resistant itself than the more commonly
used 2000-series alloys.
The main downside to zinc-chromate is that it is
toxic, both spray mist and sanding dust. Cost is
almost identical at the suppliers I use, Aircraft
spruce and a local marine supply store.
Also, green is just yellow with a little carbon black
added. The reason for that is that back in the 1930's,
the Army wanted something eaisier on the eyes for
exposed surfaces inside the aircraft. Yellow is
generally used under paint. Green works just as well.
