Hi Ron,
I recently bought a very nice HVLP gravity feed spray gun which works
well with my air compressor. It cost around $100 at my local
professional automotive paint store. There are other automotive
paint stores oriented toward individuals rather than professionals,
but they offer fewer products and much higher prices. Even those
stores stock $100 gravity feed HVLP spray guns.
I doubt the Apollo system from your link is a good choice for
painting your airplane. First, it is too low in price. If a good
compressor costs around $250 and a good gun costs around $100, then
the price of the Apollo system is around half of that bargain expected price.
The other obvious problem with the Apollo system is the suction feed
for paint instead of gravity feed. This works OK for painting, but
is a real pain for cleaning. It is nearly impossible to get the
suction guns clean since the paint collects in the bottom of the feed
can. With gravity feed guns you just pour out the remaining paint,
swish around a little solvent and spray some through the gun, then
repeat the swish and spray another time or two to get the internal
parts completely clean. This is only a minute or two of
effort. With the suction feed gun you will find yourself taking the
gun apart after every use to keep from building up paint residue
inside the critical moving parts.
Good luck,
Paul

Thanks Paul
Actually the article where I got the info was about 2 guys in the
Toronto are who each purchased one each to paint their aircraft... a
cub and a rocket with much success. Now I can't find the article.
