I have just checked my oil tank level (cold engine, prior to “burping” the engine, and plane level). The oil on the stick is above the “full” level by about a half-inch. Don’t know why! To the best of my knowledge the oil level has not been this high in the past while checking it. Since the engine is new and has not been run much the oil is quite clear and hard to see on the stick, so I could have over filled it. The level of the oil appears to be at the point where the very small hole is in the tank below the cap. No oil is above that point.

If I have inadvertently over filled the tank by this much, what is the consequence of running the engine? Can I safely operate the engine with this amount of oil over-fill? If not, what is the best way to drain out some of the excess oil with out introducing air into the system? Comments? Suggestions?

The excess oil tends to vent out of the tank vent pipe. To drain a small
amount out, use some clear tube that will fit down the dip stick hole. First
get the oil warm, then it's possible to syphon it out. It's not easy but it
can be done!

No problem running the engine with the high level in the oil tank. In fact you cannot affect the engine from too much oil in the tank.
Rotax did require that a new dipstick be installed in all oil tanks to raise the minimum level. Too high is better than too low.
