All,
I'm glad Lowell has suggested the possibility of a Fourth
Annual Last Cameron Park Kitfox Fly-in. This was my first and I would
very much like to repeat. As if the flight up and back weren't
adventurous enough, the lads from the back country once again treated
me to an adventure Saturday morning that was the very essence of
Kitfox flying and that must therefore go unreported so as to protect
the guilty. If you're ever sitting around a bunch of Kitfox pilots
and they suddenly jump up and say "Hey, let's go ___." Don't even
hesitate. Go. I guarantee you'll be treated to something quite new.
What amazed me most about this fly-in was the number of
people who arrived by land, or by other aircraft, who were either
building or interested in building a Kitfox. I must have spoken with
a dozen people myself, all of whom were intensely interested in
Kitfoxes. Some were directed my way as the sole 2-stroke
representative. John McBean kept busy most of the day talking to
prospective customers. And as Lowell reported, his Cameron Park
fly-in has achieved enough stature to merit interest from the big
boys at Golden West. They wanted to buy him out, but thankfully
Lowell resisted all offers. After all, you can't just jump up and fly
the back country when you're stuck in the middle of a huge fly-in.
I offer my public thanks to Lowell and Kay and Wray Fleming
for all the good food and good company. And thanks to all who came by
and made it a special occasion. I hope to see all of you at one of
these in the future.
