My distributor caps were loose. I filed .010" off the retainers to tighten

Chuck,

Good to see that the fix I did and passed along to you, worked. I wasn't quite in the ".010 inch" precision mode, just taking a few swipes with the file that was handy in the hangar; my calipers were at home and I doubt this brain would have thought to use them. Glad you could use the suggestion.

The L shape of the dual cap retainers lends itself to just this type of fine tuning.

Why anyone would provide "additional" security for distributor caps with ty-wraps is beyond me. Not exactly a confidence builder to anyone looking under the bonnet and contemplating a flight with you. Can just imagine what the airport bums that visit my hangar would say. Oh well, to each his own, it is experimental.

Jeff, as usual your right again. Looking at my plane I sure have wasted a lot of time and effort on safety wires and plastic ties to secure control cables, oil plugs, filters and electric wires, fuel lines, various other hoses, spark plug wires, prop extension bolts, brake pad bolts, etc. I probably should start cutting and removing them as well as the distributor cap ties because my biggest concern should be whether the local hanger rats have confidence in the plane I fly. Course, I may decide to keep all this "additional" security. Best regards from overly insecure and prudent Bill of Georgia
