The FAA is considering extending the chute repacking timeframe to 180 days.

There is a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking out that we should all comment on.

Well known repacker and RPA supporter Alan Silver has been hard at work encouraging this rule change. Interesting, when it potentially cuts into his business. I would guess, however, that unless you're a regular airshow participant you might be less than religious about repacking every 120 days. ...Blitz

Hi all

We've been using a 180 day repack interval here for
many years, without problems.

When I was learning to skydive, and saw the shorter
intervals in the US manuals, I spoke to the safety
officer at our DZ about it. His opinion was that with
the current parachute materials, and particularly the
packing bungees, there was no problem with 180 days.
Apparently there was an issue years ago with
(natural?) rubber bands, which deteriorated rapidly.

What is the opinion of the experienced skydivers on
the list?
