I have been around dozens of Kitfox'es with lexan windshields and they are
fine. You would think that these are terrible. I have my second one in my
Model IV. Only because I had the origional one 2.5 MM, or 3/32. Replaced
it with 3 MM by accident, annealed it with heat gun just below melting
point. It is great, you can see the stress lines in it if you use polaroid
glasses, but you can see them in preformed ones also. Do not get scared of
the single sheet ones. Clint

When I ordered the preformed windshield from Kitfox I was told that It would
take two weeks to get delivery.
Rather than being AOG I decided to repair the crack as per AC 43.13-1B.
As I was finishing lacing the crack I heard a loud pop and discovered the
other side of the windshield had cracked exactly as the first side, so I
wound up lacing the other side as well.
Apparently when you make these windshields out of flat sheet it causes a lot
of stress at the compound curve at the wing root.
This is the second windshield that I have had to replace due to this
problem. This second one is only about three years old and had almost no
crazing prior to cracking.
I hope this new preformed one doesn't have the same stresses.

I'm on my second flat one that's been installed now over 6 years. I installed it on a typical hot Texas summer day and used a heat gun on the two upper curves to help relieve the stress. Very little crazing and no cracks. I'm sure it'll be good for another few years.
IMHO installing the lexan on a cool day probably exacerbates the crazing later on...
