Hi from Brazil, SA. I have a O-200 engine "0 SMOH" ready to use, and I´m looking for a good project for this. I´m thinking to find a Kitfox V because is a classic-fashioned and a fast aircraft.
I would like to know what is your opinion about this aircraft wit O-200 Continental engine. in this aircraft. Performance, cruise airspeed, gas consuption... Who has a O-200 Kitfox powered? Could you send me some engine installed and cowling photos? Thanks a lot.

Hi Francisco,
I looked at the O-200 when making my engine decision
for my V, but went with a Soob instead because I
wanted a turbo for mountain flying.
I think the O-200 is a very good match for the KitFox
V and should perform similar to a Cessna 150. You
will have shorter takeoffs, landings, and faster
climbs, but maybe a little less cruise. It depends
upon how much drag reduction you use and what prop.
It will also carry more weight than a C-150. Fuel
flow should be the same, 4.0 to 4.5 gph.
If you have been using a J-3, as in your e-mail name,
the KitFox should be a better performer all around.
It also handles much better in the air, in my opinion.
KitFox's have a faster and smoother roll and pitch
control and are just plane more fun to fly. If you
build 2 clear doors and a clear overhead window, you
make it easy to see all the country side. I like the
side-by-side seating better too.
The KitFox smooth cowl will fit the O-200. In fact,
the old SkyStar factory provided firewall forward kits
for that engine. You can check with John and his wife
at:
http://www.sportplanellc.com/
to see if they still have the firewall fwd package for
you at the new factory.
The KitFox pilots guide lists the following for the V
with O-200 at sealevel with 2-170 lb pilots:
Average weight: 850 lbs
Max Gross: 1550 lbs
Average load 700 lbs
Stall speed 43 mph
Cruise speed 110-120 mph
Average climb rate 1200 feet/min
Takeoff roll 300 feet
landing roll 300 feet
I will be flying to GRU early in August for my
girfriends birthday in Campinas. What side of São
Paulo do you live on?
