Like Ray G said, John is alive and well and busy building a boat in his basement! Check out the photos, it is going to be a beauty.

Hi Don,
A friend of mine who monitors the Kitfox List sent this to me. Please pass on the following to the List members:
I dropped off the List late last year because I have been all tied up in boat building. Like building airplanes, it is very time consuming. I still have my Series 6 Kitfox, so I have not given up flying. Just not doing as much as before while the new project is still in process. Late last year I completed the restoration of a J3 Cub. Two other pilots in the area want me to restore their J3's, but I decided to first help my son build a 22 foot fishing boat first. He is a "Fishing Nut" and needs a bigger boat. Family comes first.
Believe it or not, but there is a boat building industry out there that promotes "kit boats", just like "kit planes". You can not only buy the plans, but also the plywood and fiberglass epoxy kits. The plywood kits consist of all the necessary precut pieces of plywood to build the boat. No transfer of dimensions from the drawings to the plywood. These boats come in all sizes and styles that are constructed with marine grade plywood sandwiched between layers of fiberglass. Like Experimental aircraft, they can be customized to suit the builders wishes. Of course, there is a builders forum on the Internet similar to the Kitfox List that is a great resource of information for first time builders. That is where I spend a lot of time. I dropped off the Kitfox List because I can't afford to spend too much time monitoring two lists. We are about 50% done, with 80% to go. If you are interested you can see pictures (right now 170) of our progress on the following web site.

It starts out with day one and is continually updated as progress proceeds. You can also get an idea as to how their forum is organized by clicking on the following URL: <http://forums.bateau2.com/>
You do not have to be a registered member to just view the topics and pictures. Not trying to convert anyone, just want let people know there are other worlds out there just like flying. I still love my Kitfox and will get back to full time flying when the boat is done. Every now and then I get calls from Kitfox pilots who want to talk airplanes and I still enjoy that. BTW, my new e-mail address is <kingjohn1(at)comcast.net> (kingjohn1(at)comcast.net). I now speak two languages, both boats and airplanes. I haven't been on the list for some time now, but I hope all is going well with the Kitfox community and John McBean.
