Lowell,
This very subject was one of my first discussions with Frank Miller when I
began repairing N316R. Your take on the subject is correct except for the
missing rod diameter. I was told by Frank that replacing the older 7/8"
lift struts with the new 1" lifts and adding a 1/4" 4130 carry through rod
inserted into the carry through tube would provide the increased strength
for 1200 lb gross. The 4130 rod I acquired from AircraftSpruce and then I
threaded each end for 1/4-28 to recieve a washer and Nyloc nut. I'm not an
aeronautical engineer so I cannot verify the benefit of this enhancement.
However I just wanted to confirm your comments.
