I just completed a trip in my Firestar and wrote a description of the trip to my friends. The pictures that are imbedded make a file that is 594 kb total. Not too big, but enough given the history of those who insist on staying with dial up that it is sure to cause complaints, to give me pause to post it to the list. I intend to post it since in my opinion it is the reason that I have a Firestar. The little jewel took me into a place that would take most of a day to arrive at, gave me a day of restful bliss and enjoyment. It did it with as much of a margin of safety as could be expected in that area. I might add that a Cessna could not have duplicated the experience that my Firestar handled with ease. It also brought me back home safely. This to me is what my Kolb is all about.
This is warning that a 594 kb file is about to be posted to the list. If you do not wish to see it then I suggest that you visit http://www.mail2web.com/ This is the link that will allow you to visit your email server any where and from any computer and see what you have in your email. You can also delete any message that you do not want to download. As you may have noticed the last one that tried to post a link so that those who wanted to see the picture has had nothing but problems and inability to view the link. I am not sure how to make the problem go away. I myself just upgraded my sat. connection, since I could not handle the slow speed of dial up. I guess that is a decision that each of us have to make.
I will post the message this evening at about 6 PM Mountain time. This is the best I can do. Videos will be posted of portions of the trip today. That one can be done with a link.

Larry, Mike, Rick, et al,

Wish you guys would actually read what I've said in the past posts, not what you'd infer. I don't 'insist on staying with dial-up' as you put it. I live in a rural area, Verizon is our only phone service, and they refuse to perform any upgrades. So I'm stuck with dial-up, get it? And I do need to view attachments for work, so for those who propose blocking attachments, that won't work either.

Part of the problem may be with Verizon's system, as it 'hangs' my connection during most downloads over 150K. They don't know why, I don't know why. Others have also wondered aloud on this list why the embedded pics (which are the minority) are still posted. I see most folks using links, and agree some education may be in order for those who don't know how. Rest assured, if I were to post pics, it would be through links.

For those who feel the need to flame, please grow up....

Ed,
May I suggest a possible work-around for you?
Dial in, go to your internet providers website, log into your webmail account (I believe Mindspring has this capability) and delete the message while it's still on their server.

The thing that I get is that I live in a much more rural area than you could
visualize and I put in Sat. Doesn't cost any more than any other service and
gives me 1 mb baud.

Sat is $50+/mo, DSL $15, dialup a bit less than $15....so locally
sat does cost more, a lot more, but when you can get DSL, it's almost
as cheap as dialup.

Did you not read my first suggestion ???? If you use the web based forum instead of the antiquated email system, NONE of this will be an issue. All you need to do is read what you like, and if you want to see an attachment you click on the thumbnail. It does not get any eaiser than that... Why do you continue to ignore this option ???

I don't have dialup any more, but I remember what it was like and
sympathize with those who do. Browsing the messages in a web based forum
is even worse with a slow dialup connection; it's an exercise in
agony. Using an email client is the only viable option for dialup users
who receive lots of emails, and/or who can't tie up the telephone line all
the time: the email program dials up, downloads all incoming messages at
once, and hangs up, where you can read and compose replies at your leisure
while not connected. Attachments REALLY slow this process down.

The Matronics photo share does sound pretty much a PITA, though. May I
propose an alternate: create a fee account on a picture hosting service
like photobucket.com and upload your images there... and post the link on
the bbs.
