Members,
If any of you have purchased or own an ICOM IC-A6 hand held radio you know that the owners/users manual is not worth the paper it is printed on. I just ordered one and received it and cannot figure out how to use it so I went into the ICOM web site and came across the remark you see below and he is so right. I also wrote to the company that imports this radio and told them if they can steer me onto a web site that has a users manual than can be understood I will download it and keep the radio orherwise it is going to be returned to Aircraft Spruce where I got it. In the mean time if any of you own one of these radios and can help me just tune into one of the aviation frequencies, I would appriciate it. I am not concerned with the nav part just the radio.

Review: The transciever is excellent but as a longtime technical writer/editor I am qualified to judge the instruction manual as the worst I have ever seen. Somebody needs to spend a few bucks to have it revised and sent as a supplement to customers who are stuck trying to figure out how this great transciever works. An on-line revision would help.

I'm really relieved to hear that. Maybe I'm not quite as stupid as I thought I was --- or worse, maybe I have lots of stupid company. I'll choose the first thought. I've got a few things on this radio figured out, but mostly by playing with it rather than with the "help" of the manual. If all else fails, I'll let a 12 Year old play with it, and tutor me.

Tracy,
I picked one up at SnF this year and just had to play with it a bit till understanding began. To tune in a frequency first press the CLR key to exit any of the special features. It should show RX on the screen. Then just type in the frequency.
I no that just sounds to simple, but I just did that and got my local ATIS.
Hope that helps,
