Rob,
Are you actually using this relay? I suspect it isn't suitable for a DC load (if you look at the laod terminal it says "AC" ). It probably uses a triac as the control element - which depends on the voltage reaching zero to switch off.

Thanks for the input. Two “gotchas” have been brought to my attention, fortunately before first flight (which unfortunately is not imminent) . Being an analog guy in a digital world I made the erroneous assumption that solid state relays don’t care about waveform. OOPS. Worse yet, I missed the fact that starter current is just a tad higher than the steady state cruise load. “Lectric Bob’s remotely operated battery switch (9042-100) is looking like a really good device for my purposes.
