I'm starting to work on installing my 912S on my 701 kit. I have the new rear ring mount that ZAC introduced not too long ago. I'm curious if there's anyone out there who has the rear ring type mount.

Are there any 'gotchyas' I need to look out for while installing the engine? I feel like I'm the guinea pig trying this new product.

Thanks,

Dan Ginty

Dan: I also have the new 701 912S ring mount. The installation guide I
thought was very good. The problems I had were waiting for back ordered
parts. Also the guide ends at Section 7 and there doesn't appear to be
any help with the electrical wiring. I do have Homebuilt helps video on
_Rotax 912 installation_ and _Electrical wiring 101_ which have been a
big help so far.

Does anyone have a recommendation for which battery I should buy? Rotax
says is should be at least 18 AH.

I would recommend a non venting battery. I.E. Dry
Cell, or gell cell. Having worked on lead acid types
while in the military let me tell you that aluminum
and battery acid do not mix well. Even though the
batteries were vented to the outside of the aircraft
somehow fumes would manage to creep into the battery
compartment and cause corrosion. When I started
working on aircraft that had nicads it was a much
easier task to keep the battery compartment corrosion
free.

The one major problem I ran into was with the water pump outlets. If I am not mistaken as you are looking at the engine from the rear the lower left water pump outlet tube needs to have the 80 degree bend instead of the 45 degree bend. This has been discussed previously on the board.

A second concern I ran into was the radiator brackets. After approximately 5 hours of running the engine - all prior to actual first flight - I had both radiator brackets break.

I don't know if it has anything to do with the ring mount but I have a tachometer that is spastic - will read OK for awhile but all of a sudden start jumping all over the place.

Just some observations from my installation of the 912S on the ring mount for the CH701.
