Hi...John Graham here with my first Yak "opportunity to learn"! During the pre-buy inspection of N15YK, there was about 25/1000's play (maybe a bit more) in the push-pull rode behind the aft seat in the nut just before the Y-fork that went into the attachment for the elevator cables. That's as close as I can get to describing it. You can feel the play in the stick when pushing or pulling it fore or aft - it moves slightly before engaging the elevator. No one thinks this is normal - is it? The A&P/IA (Lynn Hadler from Motive Services at Lake in the Hills airport 3CK - where N15YK is based) called Jill (not sure who she is yet!) but she stated she had not heard of this. So, my questions are:
1. Is this normal?
2. If not, is it a case of adjusting the nut/bolt behind the aft seat or is it something more involved?

John,
It is not normal and SHOULD have been identified during the annual or pre
purchase inspection. Luckily it is not a major issue and can be adjusted
out. There is a large nut/sleeve/collar on the tube going back to the
elevator bellcrank in the rear cockpit under the seat. There should be a
set screw on the underside of the nut/sleeve. Loosen the set screw and take
the slop out by turning the nut on the sleeve. Once you've removed the
slop, tighten the set screw.
